Letters received by James (called Jamie or Jay) Lloyd Abbot of Roxbury, Mass. and Mobile, Alabama, 1865-89, from his wife Amelia Lyon Abbot, grandmother Anna Cunningham Blake, father James Lloyd Abbot, sister-in-law Eugenia [Ross] Lyon, father-in-law William H. Ross, brother-in-law Jack Ferrell Ross, and friend and fellow Harvard graduate George Ashburner of Calcutta, India. Letters pertain to his attendance at Roxbury Latin School and Harvard College; his partnership in the cotton brokerage firm of Dorgan and Abbot in Mobile, Alabama, his association with Stephen M. Weld of Boston, Mass., his family's move from Massachusetts back to Mobile, and other activities and experiences of family and friends. Also includes 5 weekly cards sent to Abbot's mother Anna Lewis Blake by the Roxbury Latin School, commending Abbot for good conduct, 6 Dec. 1867-2 Oct. 1868.
